Hermes O Stamp 2011 Noir Black Veau Togo Kelly 28 Retourne Bag Palladium Hardware
The history of the Hermes Kelly bag dates back to 1930. A century after the house of Hermès opened the doors of its saddle-making workshops, Robert Dumas created a small bag with straps for ladies. Several years later the Retourne technique was developed - sewing the bag backwards and turning it inside out, like a glove. But it wasn't until 1956 when Grace Kelly famously hid her baby bump behind her Hermès bag that it was officially crowned the 'Kelly'. Since then the Hermes Kelly bag has been curated by collectors the world over and remains one of the most coveted handbags in fashion history.
The craftsmanship that goes into the Hermes Kelly bag is extraordinary. Namely, thirty-six leather pieces assembled by a single devoted craftsman. Six-hundred-and-eighty hand stitches, sixteen small studs, a padlock, a swivel clasp and a clochette all assembled in 25 hours. Each bag is a work of art.
This classic Kelly is crafted from one of the most sought after leather types, Togo. Named after the theme from the year of its creation: an African country, this leather is the result of an intensive drumming process that brings out its natural features This process softens the skin and brings a generous grain to the surface. It first appeared in Hermes collections in 1997 and has a matte appearance which is soft to the touch and becomes beautifully supple over time. In the classic shade of Noir Black and in the covetable size 28, this bag is a true collectible.
